John Yardley – Exhibition Comments:

It is unusual for the subject of an exhibition to say anything in the catalogue of his own work but exceptionally this has been requested for this occasion:-

Although I paint in both watercolour and oil, watercolour has always been my first love and preferred medium. The two cannot really be compared having very different qualities but for me, there is nothing quite like the immediacy and spontaneity of watercolour.

In recent years, acrylic trends have resulted in watercolour becoming anything with a water base and much of the work now being seen in galleries would more reasonably qualify for the oil painting market. The pure medium has a charm all its own and I like to think that I have never strayed!

For success in the marketing of painting, a great deal depends on the gallery's enthusiasm for the work offered and I can not say enough for the support shown by Century Galleries both now and previously. 

I am delighted that they have resumed their exhibitions and trust that former successes will be repeated.
